News From JoAnn Salin

Thank goodness, it happened a few days after (not before) our 55th reunion, but I broke my leg on Sept. 10th !!!  Just a stupid fall in my kitchen.  But actually it may have been the best thing that happened to me.  It made me realize it was time to finally move out of my 3-story condo (my garage was in the basement) to avoid future falls.  And so I moved to the Oakwood Village Retirement Center here in Madison, where I have a very nice one bedroom apartment and I am very happy.  One night I ate dinner with Jean Manchester who hired me back in the 50’s when I worked at Manchesters part time – though of course we didn’t remember each other. And another resident I met a few weeks after moving in was Sally Oosterhouse … yup, George’s sister.  What a small world!

News From Paul “Skip” Becker

Our winter this year in Philadelphia reminds me of Madison –  I am a retired Clinical Psychologist , my wife, Marianne, is a part time Pastor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  We have four grandkids in Leesburg,VA and four more in Hampstead,NH.  I raise pedigreed show rabbits of the Rex breed and developed a new variety, Amber Rex, which was accepted by the National Rabbit Breeders Association at their Convention in Grand Rapids.  This past October, Pennsylvania hosted the National Rabbit Convention in Harrisburg and we had over 22,000 rabbits there from all 50 States and a dozen foreign countries.  We have enjoyed good friends from coast to coast in this wonderful hobby.

News From Dave Quady

Hey, everybody, I’m still sorry to have missed our reunion, but a long birdwatching trip to Indonesia’s islands was a temptation not to pass up.davequady
More recently, I gave in to a really nagging temptation: to set foot on my seventh continent (see photo). I realized I’d been stuck on six since the mid-1980s, and that seemed a long time. Since I wasn’t getting any younger — and Antarctica wasn’t getting any closer — it was time to go.
Took a wonderful month-long trip that included the Falklands and South Georgia Island, where it was possible to hike the last mile of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s memorable trek to safety into Stromness, and to revel in the island’s spectacular scenery that he so enjoyed. Stay well, everybody, and I’ll see you all in 2018.
