Ladies meet for lunch

News and photos provided by JoAnn (Friedman) Salin:

“On Oct. 24th, four Madison Ladies, JoAnn Friedman, Natalie Nordness, Jill Sievers, and Karen VanderHeiden plus Jeannie Verthein (New York)  met for our annual “Ladies Luncheon”.  We have been meeting every year since our 50th reunion.

Jeannie is writing a novel and if you would like to read the beginning of her novel it is on the web at www.LastGentleman.homestead.com.  Another website you might want to view is  https://youtu.be/6f1CzzYki7w .  It is a 5 minute video of the magic show I organized at Oakwood Village, the retirement center where I live.  The 11 magicians are all residents and you will see George Oosterhouse’s sister, Sally in it.  She is watching the “Wizard Trick”.  She is wearing a light blue top and has short gray hair. Sally also lives here.”

Thanks,

JoAnn

“Madison West Ladies” lunch planned for October 24th

I received the following message from JoAnn Salin announcing plans for the “Madison West Ladies”  luncheon on October 24th:

Hi Chuck, I’m organizing a luncheon for the Madison West Ladies (or any out-of-town ladies who might be visiting) on Oct. 24th.  I don’t know if you want to post anything about it, but below is the letter I’ve sent out.  I’m enjoying your website. Thanks, JoAnn

—————

Dear West Ladies,

We didn’t have our “Ladies Luncheon” this past spring, but Jeannie Verthein is going to be in Wisconsin next month, so if you are available, let’s get together on Saturday, Oct. 24th (Badgers are playing at Illinois) at noon at the West Towne Olive Garden Restaurant.

I’m sending this email to all the Wisconsin ladies in case any of you might be in town that weekend.

Please let me know (at least a week in advance) if you will be able to make it.  I’ll send a reminder when the date gets closer 😉

Cheers,

JoAnn Friedman Salin

Beer……Several Perspectives

Classmate John Ragatz  sent me this message entitled “Beer……Several Perspectives”.   Ahh, those were the days!  ChuckR.

“Cheers

Having grown up 80 miles west of the Beer Capitol of the World, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and attending the University of Wisconsin, maybe the first “wet” campus in the country, in the early 60’s, , beer was an important part of the culture!

With Fraternity Beer Suppers every Friday night and beer flowing in The Student Union,  total beer consumption may have exceeded  drinking water.

To survive, I am told we can only go 7 days without water.  The survival period without a beer was much shorter

John”

PS  Green Bay Packer Paul Horning’s statement illustrates its importance!

Beer Some great rationalizations….

Sometimes, after playing golf, I reflect on all the beer I drink, I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and I think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn’t drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. I think, “It is better to drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.”  Babe Ruth

“I feel sorry for people who don’t drink. When they wake up in the morning, that’s as good as they’re going to feel all day.”  Winston Churchill

” When I read about the evils of drinking after golfing I gave up reading.”  Paul Horning

“24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not.”  H. L. Mencken

” When we drink, we get drunk. When we get drunk, we fall asleep. When we fall asleep, we commit no sin. When we commit no sin, we go to heaven. So, let’s all get drunk and go to heaven!”   George Bernard Shaw

Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.”  Benjamin Franklin

“Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.”  Dave Barry

“BEER: HELPING UGLY PEOPLE HAVE SEX SINCE 3000 B.C.!”   W. C. Fields

“Remember “I” before “E,” except in Budweiser.”  Professor Irwin Corey

“To some it’s a six-pack, to me it’s a Support Group. Salvation in a can!”   Leo Durocher

One night at Cheers, Cliff Clavin said to his buddy, Norm Peterson:

“Well, ya see, Norm, it’s like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo.  And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members!  In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells.  But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first.  In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine!  That’s why you always feel smarter after a few beers.”
