Obituary for Dr. Ricardo Jr. Quintana
Verona
Dr. Ricardo Beckwith Quintana Jr., age 70, passed away Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010.
He was born Aug. 23, 1940, in Madison, the son of distinguiquintana_r-2shed Professor Ricardo B. and Janet (Harris) Quintana Sr.
Dr. Quintana Jr. received a B.A. from Harvard, an M.A. from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. from UW-Madison, each in mathematics. He was known for his work on the restricted Burnside problem.
Dr. Quintana Jr. is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Vinz) Quintana; and a son, Christian Watson.
A graveside service was held at Middleton Cemetery in Verona on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010. A very special thank you to the staff at Badger Prairie Health Care Center for your wonderful care of Ricardo!

Former faculty member Leo Barnes obituary

MADISON
Leo F. Barnes, age 86, of Madison passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2010. A native of Hay Springs, Neb., Barnes served in the Navy during World War II and attended UW-Madison after the war, earnibarnes_leong a bachelor’s degree in 1947 and a master’s degree in 1949. He became a teacher in 1948 and later a guidance counselor at Madison West High where he worked until he retired. He is survived by his wife, Janet; and daughter, Joan. A short Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Coventry Village Retirement Community, Brookline Apartments activity room, 7707 N. Brookline Drive, in Madison. In lieu of plants and flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.

West High Homecoming includes dedication ceremony

West High School celebrates its 80th Homecoming today with a dedication of the school’s $390,000 new entrance lined with inscribed bricks that were purchased by students, alumni and neighbors.

The event begins at 12:30 p.m. with the West Homecoming Parade, which starts at the rear of Randall School and continues to the Ash Street side of West High. The entrance dedication is at 1:30 p.m., followed by a pep rally in the gym at 2 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. football game pitting West vs. Verona at Mansfield Stadium

Holiday Fruitcake Recipe

cart0871 cup water
1 cup of sugar
4 large eggs
2 cups dried fruit
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup brown sugar
lemon juice
nuts
1 gallon whiskey

Sample the whiskey to check for quality.

Take a large bowl.

Check the whiskey again to be sure it is of the highest quality.

Pour one level cup and drink.

Repeat.

Turn on the electric mixer; beat 1 cup butter in a large, fluffy bowl.

Add 1 teaspoon sugar and beat again.

Make sure the whiskey is still OK.

Cry another tup. Turn off mixer.

Break 2 legs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit.

Mix on the turner.

If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers, pry it loose with a drewscriver.

Sample the whiskey to check for tonsisticity.

Next, sift 2 cups of salt. Or something, Who cares.

Check the whiskey.

Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.

Add one table. Spoon. Of sugar or something. Whatever you can find.

Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees.

Don’t forget to beat off the turner.

Throw the bowl out of the window.

Check the whiskey again.

Go to bed.
