Chuck Lanphear checks in

I wanted to share this email and photo from Chuck Lanphear that I received this week.  He relates to a recent visit from classmate Stu Gordon:

“Stu and his much younger brother Bob passed through Prescott Valley, Az. on their BMW motorcycles last week, we had an early dinner at a local Mexican rest., they left early the following morning, I find great humor in Stu’s story of his trek back home to Calif. He is definitely way to old to be having so much fun. Charlie”

Update 5/30/17 – Here is Stu’s response to Chuck’s (aka “Rocket”) inquiry if Stu made it back to San Diego safely:

Rockets,

“Yes I made it home but it was an adventure. Jon was not in Wickenburg so we moved on to Yuma to visit Bob’s friend. I decided to head on back to San Diego that evening so about 3:30, I  headed west of I-8. There was about a 30-40 mph cross wind out of the southwest which created a sandstorm and sandblasting on my way to the costal range east of San Diego. When I started up the grade on the range, rain was added to the elements and then as I got about the 3000 ft level, fog was added. At about the 4000 ft level, the temperature dropped to 41 degrees (and after riding in 90+ deg temp, I wasn’t dressed for the low temperature). By the time I got to El Cajon, the wind had diminished, the roads were dry and the temp was about 60 deg., but I was @#*&@ cold to the bone. All part of the adventure of motorcycle riding! See attached picture. We enjoyed the visit and dinner, thanks.  Stu”

Annette Geiser Obituary

I am sorry to advise everyone of the recent passing of classmate Annette Geiser.

John Lorimer advised me that he had seen Annette Geiser’s obituary that was released on March 24, 2017, but was puzzled with the acknowledgement that she  had graduated from Central High.GEISER_A

I was able to contact Annette’s daughter,  Carrie, and she said that the family knew that Annette attended both West and Central, but were not exactly sure which school she graduated from.  She said that she appreciated that I contacted her.

JoAnn (Friedman) Salin announces initial plans for 60th reunion

The follow email to classmates was sent by JoAnn Salin announcing that she would be organizing a 60th Class Reunion sometime in 2018.  ChuckR:

“Dear Classmates,

Well, it’s time again to start thinking about our 2018 reunion … our 60th !!! This year instead of our committee, I will organize the reunion. The reason is that the “reunion committee” decided at our 55th that it would be the last one they would plan. So Phyllis Mintz Eisenberg “twisted my arm” and I agreed, as three years ago I planned a large family reunion.

I’m sending this email to ask for your input. Please reply to this email to let me know if you prefer holding our reunion in July or Sept. A couple classmates who live 20 – 30 minutes away from Madison asked me to schedule the dinner earlier, perhaps 5:30, if the reunion is in Sept. so they won’t have to drive home when it’s dark. The sun sets about 7:30 in Sept. and 8:30 in July.

I will organize a Friday night get together for drinks, the Sat. night dinner, and Sun. morning brunch. It will be at the Marriott Hotel again with all three events at the hotel. And on Sat. afternoon, there is the Art Fair on the square in July and Badger football in Sept. (though it may be a rush to attend cocktails at 5:00 and dinner at 5:30). If anyone would like to organize other Sat. afternoon events, please feel free to do so.

Sorry for the long email, but I’ve two last questions. Should the Sat. night dinner be held in a private room or the lobby (like last time)? And do you want a buffet or sit-down dinner? An option could be a sit-down dinner and a buffet for desserts. Let me know what you think.

Hope you’re all well and I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

Cheers,

JoAnn”
